22-Passenger Coach Bus

A small coach set up for classes, teams and troops: restroom on board, a microphone that makes headcounts painless, and room under the seats for lunch.

The short answer

Is 22 seats the right size?

Eighteen to twenty-two riders, and it's the size most classes, teams and scout troops land on once you've counted the chaperones.

You get reclining high-back seats, a restroom, Wi-Fi, overhead bins, power at every seat and a microphone that turns a roll call into a ten-second job instead of a headache. Small picnic coolers slide under the seats. There's no luggage bay underneath, so gear-heavy overnight trips belong on a bigger bus.

Twenty or under, the 20-passenger coach bus is identical in kit. Twenty-three or twenty-four and you're into the 24-passenger coach bus.

Amenities vary slightly by vehicle, so tell us your must-haves when you request a quote.

A look at the 22-Passenger Coach Bus

The same restroom and Wi-Fi as the 20, sized for a roster that travels with chaperones and coolers.

In-Valley athletics, church picnics at South Mountain, weekend tournaments where parents follow the team.

Send the final roster with chaperone numbers 48 hours out, and give every field address a gate or parking note — a pin drop on its own is not enough. Tape the cooler lids before mountain grades.

The experience

What the trip is like on the 22-passenger shuttle-style coach bus

A PA briefing before pull-out puts everyone on the same clock, and it ends the negotiation about café bathroom stops before it starts.

Picnic coolers ride under the seats while your driver takes the South Mountain approach gently, which is why we ask you to tape the lids.

On a tournament day, the coach waits where the school district allows. Your driver will not load in a red zone, and that is deliberate.

The 22-Passenger Coach Bus is the school and church size: PA seatbelt briefings, cooler-friendly space under the seats, and a restroom aboard, without paying for empty mid-size rows.

A firm scenic group that only needs the restroom can drop to the 20. Tasting-day stretch room and laptop bags usually want the 24.

It is built for in-Valley days rather than Sedona openers — athletics, picnics and tournament weekends.

Field-trip season is everyone else's season too

Here's the awkward bit about school trips: the best months for an outing are the months everyone else wants a bus. April is our busiest month of the year, and February, March and May aren't far behind.

The saving grace is that school trips happen on weekday mornings, which is when the fleet is quietest. You're not competing with the Saturday crowd at all.

Still, don't leave it. Most people call us about a month before their date, and a month is a sensible floor for a trip that also needs permission slips and a venue reservation. This bus is a regular at the Arizona Science Center and the Phoenix Zoo for kids' outings, on youth group trips, and on end-of-year graduation excursions. For a desert field day at Usery Mountain, put the outdoor part before 11 a.m. from April onward.

Community sports weekends staged across the metro.

  • Parent groups

Academic and activity clubs hopping East Valley campuses.

Sizing

Size up or size down?

The 20-passenger coach bus has the same restroom, Wi-Fi and seats — take it if students plus chaperones come to twenty or fewer. The 24-passenger coach bus is the step up for when a second parent volunteers or a small class joins.

If the group is hauling sports gear or overnight bags, jump to the 30-passenger coach bus, which is where under-floor storage begins.

For a grown-up celebration at the same headcount, the 22-passenger party bus is the party version. This bus fits the bus bays at the Science Center, the Zoo and the Musical Instrument Museum, and most school pickup loops. Older neighborhoods with cars parked both sides are the tight spots. Ask your district what documentation it wants from a charter operator and tell us early.

Local know-how

Phoenix tips for this vehicle

  • Final roster plus chaperones has to fit. Send the numbers 48 hours out.
  • Tape cooler lids before mountain grades.
  • Heavy athletic gear often pushes a group to the 24 for aisle space.
  • Name every field address and a rough end time so the coach is where you need it when you need it.

Booking a coach this size

  • Send the game start and your best guess at the end time so the coach is waiting when you walk out.
  • School accounts can ask for an itemized invoice with the pricing.
  • Mountain and park addresses need gate or parking notes, not just a pin drop.
  • Book two to three weeks out for tournament weekends.

Behind the wheel

Safety and your chauffeur

  • Athletic gear is strapped or stowed so the aisle stays clear for students.
  • Drivers know district curb rules and will not load in a red zone.
  • Seatbelt reminders go out over the PA before every departure, and the cabin is cooled before boarding on hot afternoons.

22-Passenger Coach Bus FAQ

Straight answers on minimum hours, deposits, what is included, and what to bring.

It's one of the main things it does. Forward-facing high-back seats, a microphone for instructions and a restroom on board cover the practical side. Districts and private schools often have their own rules about charter operators — insurance certificates, driver documentation, that sort of thing. Ask your school what's required, then tell us when you request the quote so it's ready.
That's your school's call, not ours. Common ratios run one adult per eight to ten older students, and tighter for young children. On a 22-seat bus that might be eighteen or nineteen students with three or four adults. The thing people forget: chaperones take seats too, so count every one of them in your headcount from the start.
Yes. There's under-seat room for small picnic coolers and the overhead bins take lunch bags easily. One or two bigger coolers can ride up front or on a spare seat. Ask us about food and drink rules for the cabin when you book, and bring trash bags so the group hands the bus back clean.
More than you'd think. One adult can talk to all twenty-two riders without raising their voice — the rules for the day, what's coming up out the window, and a headcount before every departure. A quick count over the microphone at each reboarding is the single simplest way to be sure nobody's still in the gift shop.
Both have proper bus drop-off and parking, as do the Desert Botanical Garden, the Children's Museum of Phoenix and the Musical Instrument Museum. When you book the group visit, ask the venue for its bus instructions and forward them to us. Some want a bus parking reservation on busy spring weekdays, which is easy to miss.
Raise it when you ask for the quote and tell us the children's ages. Seat-belt equipment varies between vehicles, and the rules for child restraints depend on both the age of the child and the type of vehicle. If anyone in your group is young enough to need a car seat, say so at the start so the right bus gets assigned.
For a day tournament where the gear fits in bins and under seats, yes. For an overnight with luggage plus equipment, this size has nothing underneath and you'll be stacking bags on seats. A 30-passenger or larger coach is the better answer. Send us the roster size, the gear list and the venue and we'll tell you which.
