Official facts that anchor the plan
- The official venue website currently names the arena Mortgage Matchup Center and lists 201 E Jefferson Street in downtown Phoenix.
- The accessibility page identifies an event drop-off on Third Street just south of Jefferson at the green curb and says vehicles may not be parked or left unattended in drop-off zones.
- The transportation page publishes several Lyft drop-off points and identifies Third Street and Jefferson near the Convention Center for Lyft pickup.
- The venue says parking availability, access and pricing may vary by event and encourages advance review of event parking.
- Accessible parking in the arena and Jefferson garages is described as first-come, first-served, with entrance details on the official accessibility page.
Use the current venue name without losing the old landmark
Tickets, maps and venue emails may use Mortgage Matchup Center while passengers still say Footprint Center. Put both names on the group message, followed by the full street address. This simple identity check prevents guests from treating the old name as a different destination and gives the trip lead one searchable reference to share.
The arena, Chase Field and the Convention Center occupy the same downtown event district. On nights with overlapping events, a destination written only as 'the arena' is too vague. Record the event title, door time, ticketed entrance if supplied and the approved unloading location. The driver-facing record and passenger-facing message should point to the same place even if they use different operational detail.
Do not turn a drop-off curb into a waiting zone
The official accessibility guidance is explicit that vehicles cannot park or remain unattended in drop-off zones. Treat the published Third Street point as an arrival reference, not permission for a party bus or coach to dwell. Commercial vehicle size, traffic control and event closures may require a different instruction from the venue or event organizer.
For departure, designate a protected indoor or plaza meeting point and have the group lead hold passengers there until the vehicle is cleared to approach. The official Lyft pickup location is useful context for crowd flow, but rideshare instructions do not automatically apply to a commercial bus. Write the confirmed bus pickup point into the final itinerary after the venue or event contact responds.
Control the post-event release
Arena crowds release quickly and cellular service can become unreliable. Before the event, send a map pin, a plain-language landmark and a backup meeting instruction. Ask passengers to acknowledge the message rather than assuming everyone read it. If the group is seated in separate sections, select a meeting point outside the ticketed seating bowl but before the curb movement begins.
Set two clocks: the passenger assembly time and the vehicle approach time. They should not be identical. The trip lead completes the headcount first, then signals dispatch that the group is ready. If the vehicle must circulate, passengers stay at the meeting point instead of chasing it through downtown traffic. Record the missing-rider decision rule and who can extend the service window.
